We’ve all heard the phrase “healthy body, healthy mind,” but how much truth is there to it? As it turns out, quite a bit. The mind-body connection is a powerful force that affects our physical and mental health in more ways than we might realize. 

The Science Behind the Mind-Body Connection

There’s no denying that physical exercise is good for our bodies. But did you know that it can also boost our mental health? When we exercise, our bodies release endorphins, which are feel-good chemicals that can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, regular exercise can help regulate our mood through dopamine. Exercise also can improve our sleep (I know after a hard day paddling in a canoe, I will be rewarded with a good night’s rest). Know that a good night’s sleep is key to recovery and recreation. It’s our nightly hibernation!
